Cedars Therapy Institute is built on a vast range of experience and expertise in the world of therapy and of therapist and counsellor training.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality training for counsellors, psychotherapists and allied professionals in a safe and encouraging environment. Our aim is that our students will be confident in their knowledge and ability to work with clients as a result of our training.
Our Principal Directors have a combined experience of 45 years in the field of counselling and psychotherapy as well as over 25 years experience in training and training development within the field.
We have been offering training as Therapy Institute for over 10 years and have worked to develop a variety of integrated approaches as well as opening up access to courses both online and in Person within Greater Manchester.

Stephanie Palin
Founder | Principle Director | Course development | Tutor

Stephanie is an integrative Psychotherapist, Psychosexual Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer with over 35 years’ experience in the field. A practitioner since 1985, she has worked extensively within Relate, the NHS and private practice.
For nearly three decades, Stephanie trained and developed therapists nationally. She served as a Relate Trainer from 1990 to 2018, designed multiple courses for Relate’s workforce – including specialist training in Sex Therapy and online counselling – and has been a Relate Supervisor since 1996. She currently lectures in Psychosexual Therapy at Master’s level, supporting qualified counsellors in extending and deepening their clinical skills.
Stephanie has trained thousands of practitioners to work both face-to-face and online and is widely recognised for her contribution to the development of online and telephone counselling. She is a founding member and former Chair of ACTO, former Chair of OCTIA, and served on the BACP Expert Reference Group for Telephone and Online Counselling. She is currently Vice Chair of ATSAC and an EWG Counselling Trustee.
Alongside her training and governance work, Stephanie maintains an active clinical practice. She specialises in psychosexual therapy, relationship therapy, trauma and addiction, and is an experienced EMDR therapist, integrating EMDR into work with trauma and compulsive sexual behaviours. She has also worked as an online Sex and Relationship Expert and continues to consult within the field.

Anna palin-swift
Director | Course Development | Tutor
MSc BSc (dual hons) PGDip Relationship Therapy Dip Sex Addiction
After graduating from Keele University with a Dual Honours degree in Psychology and English, Anna went on to complete an MSc at the University of Chester. Her postgraduate research explored the reasons why young people may not access therapy and whether online counselling can help reduce barriers for this age group.
Anna later completed her Relate Postgraduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling and has worked within the counselling field for over 12 years. She has been in private practice for 12 years, supporting individuals, couples and young people with a wide range of emotional and relational difficulties.
Her clinical experience includes working with relationship challenges, anxiety, complex emotional issues and sexual compulsive behaviours. She has also delivered counselling within Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) settings, supporting clients within organisational contexts.
Since 2017, Anna has been a trainer with Cedars Therapy, contributing to the development and supervision of practitioners within the field.
Alongside her clinical and training work, Anna founded a local not-for-profit organisation providing free and low-cost counselling support to the Wigan community, reflecting her strong commitment to accessible, community-based mental health care. She has also served as a Trustee for ATSAC for the past seven years, contributing to the governance and strategic development of specialist therapeutic services.

James Birkett Course Tutor
ProDip in Integrative Counselling], DipClinHyp Hypnotherapy,] Cert Working with Couples,] Dip in Sex Informed Therapy,] Dip in Sex Addiction.
James is a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Hypnotherapist, registered with the BACP (British Association of Counsellor and Psychotherapists) and General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. He has many years experience of dealing with mental Health issues and suicide prevention in the counseling and workplace setting, as well as assisting individuals and couples with relationship and addiction issues. He is an experience tutor, working in colleges, for training providers, as well as having his own training centre.
James continues to work as a counsellor for a Not-For-Profit organisation as well working in private practice, along with training others in person centred practice.

Charlotte Gooding
Charlotte is a qualified integrative counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and is a Registered Member of the BACP.
She qualified in January 2024 and now works at a non-profit counselling service in Bolton. Before this she has worked with service users in a drug and alcohol recovery organisation, and in the NHS as part of the staff psychological support service. She has Masters degrees in Literary Studies in English from Lancaster University and in Social Policy from University of Central Lancashire, as well as a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
She has taught English to students from Italy, Ukraine, and Somalia online, before turning her attention to teaching Counselling with Cedars Therapy Institute. She has an interest in the intersection between trauma, disability, and social justice, and her continuing professional development activities reflect this.
